Can I Bring My Partner or Kids to My Maternity Session?

(Absolutely — and here’s how it works)

One of the most common questions moms ask when planning maternity photos is:

“Can my partner or kids be included in the session?”

The answer is a big, enthusiastic yes.

Your maternity session isn’t just about your bump.

It’s about your growing family, the season you’re in, and the people who are walking alongside you as you become (or continue being) a mom.

Maternity Photos Can Be Just You — or About Your Family

Every maternity session looks a little different, and that’s exactly how it should be.

Some moms prefer:

  • solo portraits that celebrate their strength and pregnancy

Others love including:

  • quiet moments with their partner
  • sibling connection
  • family images that tell the story of this chapter

There’s no right or wrong approach.

The goal is to create photos that feel meaningful and authentic to you.

Including Your Partner

Partners are always welcome during maternity sessions.

Partner photos are typically:

  • simple and connected
  • natural and relaxed
  • focused on support and closeness

I guide partners just as much as I guide moms, so no one feels awkward or unsure about what to do.

These images often become some of the most cherished — capturing the love and anticipation before your baby arrives.

Including Older Children or Siblings

If you already have children, including them can make your maternity session even more meaningful.

When siblings join the session, we usually structure the session like this:

  1. Family photos first
  2. Partner + mom images
  3. Solo maternity portraits

This allows children to:

  • be included in the important moments
  • avoid long waiting times
  • relax or play afterward

Keeping the session flexible helps everyone stay calm and comfortable.

A Calm, Flexible Approach (Especially With Kids)

Children don’t need to sit perfectly or behave a certain way.

I work with:

  • short attention spans
  • wiggles and movement
  • shy moments
  • big emotions

The session is designed to feel relaxed.

The goal is connection — not perfection.

Often the sweetest moments come from the natural interactions between parents and children.

What If I Only Want a Few Family Photos?

That’s completely okay.

Many moms choose to:

  • include family for part of the session
  • focus primarily on solo maternity portraits
  • keep the experience simple and intentional

We can plan the flow of the session around what matters most to you.

Studio vs Outdoor Sessions With Family

Both studio and outdoor maternity sessions can work beautifully with partners or kids.

Studio Sessions

Studio sessions offer:

  • a calm, controlled environment
  • consistent lighting
  • fewer distractions for younger children

Outdoor Sessions

Outdoor sessions offer:

  • more room for kids to move
  • a playful, natural atmosphere
  • beautiful scenery and natural light

If you’re unsure which option fits best, I’m always happy to help guide that decision.

You Don’t Have to Decide Alone

Many moms feel unsure about:

  • whether to include their partner
  • how much of the session should involve family
  • how to manage the flow with kids

That’s completely normal.

My role is to help:

  • reduce stress
  • create a calm experience
  • make sure everyone feels comfortable

You don’t have to plan every detail.

We’ll figure it out together.

This Is Your Story

Maternity photos are about this chapter of your life.

Whether that means:

  • just you
  • you and your partner
  • your whole family

You deserve photos that feel honest, meaningful, and true to your story.
