(A calm, photographer-led approach to wedding planning)
Wedding planning is often described as exciting and joyful — and it absolutely can be — but there’s a quieter truth many couples experience too.
It can also feel overwhelming.
So many decisions.
So many opinions.
So many timelines, budgets, tabs, notes, and screenshots living everywhere at once.
Most couples don’t feel stressed because they’re doing something wrong.
They feel stressed because they’re trying to plan something they’ve never done before — without a clear roadmap.
And that’s not how planning is meant to feel.
After years of photographing weddings, I’ve noticed something important:
The couples who feel the calmest on their wedding day aren’t the ones who planned the most — they’re the ones who were supported through the planning.
Overwhelm usually comes from:
When everything lives in too many places — and no one is helping guide the flow — it’s easy to feel behind before you’ve even begun.
A calm wedding plan isn’t about doing more.
It’s about creating space.
Space to:
The goal isn’t perfection.
It’s presence.
And that presence starts long before the wedding day arrives.
A Sample Calm Wedding Day Timeline
One of the most common things I see couples struggle with when planning their wedding day is the timeline.
Not because they’re doing anything wrong — but because most couples have never planned a wedding before. They don’t know how long photos actually take, when dinner should realistically happen, or how much time is needed for moments like getting ready, family photos, or portraits with just the two of them.
That uncertainty alone can create a lot of stress.
This is an example of a well-paced wedding day timeline, built with breathing room so moments don’t feel rushed or forced.

For every wedding I photograph, I create a custom timeline for my couples. I walk them through when to schedule photos, how long each part of the day typically needs, and how to structure the day in a way that feels calm and natural.
My goal is always the same:
to help couples feel supported, confident, and present — without having to figure all of this out on their own.
If you’re early in planning — or feeling stuck — you don’t need to figure everything out at once.
I created a free planning guide to help couples slow things down and approach wedding planning with clarity instead of chaos.
This free guide walks you through:
It’s especially helpful for couples planning in Alberta or considering an elopement, but the planning principles apply to weddings anywhere.

Once couples move past the “what do we need to think about?” stage, the next question is almost always:
“Where do we put all of this?”
That’s exactly why I created my Digital Wedding Planner.
For couples who want everything in one calm place
I originally designed this planner for my wedding photography clients so they could keep everything — timelines, budgets, guest lists, vendors, and details — organized without feeling overwhelmed.
It’s now available as a standalone digital planner for couples who want structure without rigidity.
Inside the planner, you’ll find:
It’s designed to be used on tablet or desktop and to grow with you as your plans evolve.
